The gifts of the Holy Spirit, also known as Spiritual Gifts, are those abilities that the Holy Spirit specifically gives to believers to help them carry out ministry in the church. These gifts are described in scripture primarily in 1 Corinthians 12-14, Romans 12, and Ephesians 4, though in order to get a full idea of the scope of the Holy Spirit's work in empowering believers, one would need to study a much broader ranger of scriptures. The books and resources in this reader's guide will span a range of viewpoints, but most will reflect the idea that in some way the gifts of the Holy Spirit continue to operate in the church today. As time allows, books on the cessation of the gifts (called "cessationism") will be included. |
