Using Henry's Religion Links Page
Organization
Links are organized by topics with each topic separated into
sections by viewpoint. Other directories and general information
is listed at the bottom of the table in a cell spanning all the
table columns. Listing at the bottom of a table does not indicate
that a site is neutral, but rather that it covers more than one
view, or that it provides general information. The viewpoint of
the site as a whole on which the page is found may be partisan.
Below each link there may be a list of specific pages on that
site, which will be presented as a bulletted list. This is to
provide the user with directions to the specific material on the
site that led me to include that site in this directory. If I
link to a single page on a larger site, I will normally also
provide a link in the short comment below the link indicating the
home page for the site from which the page is taken. This is to
allow further investigation of that whole site. Other portions of
the site might be listed elsewhere in the directory. If a site
covers more than one topic in may be listed multiple times.
Comments and Reviews
I use the following buttons to indicate specific information
about a site:
Indicates a site of particular
interest. This doesn't mean I agree with the content of the site
or that it reflects any particular viewpoint. If a site presents
an excellent display of it's viewpoint, or provides an
exceptional directory of material on a view, I will give it this
button. No more than one of every ten sites listed will receive
this indicator, and those who do may display this button:
 |
We will provide the code to you for your site upon approval.
|
The code which I provide to copy includes a link back to the
directory. This does me more good than it does you, but I thought
I'd try!
See Standards for Top 10% sites.
Award of this button also does not comment on the design of
the web site. It simply indicates the relative value of the site
as a resource for research. While I list my own sites in the
directory, none of my own sites are listed for this award.
Indicates there is a longer comment on this site. If
I wish to comment at greater length than a few lines, I will
place the comment separately in the file and add this button.
Indicates that the site or the specific page referenced is a
directory.
Indicates that I have made a review of the site available. A
review will include more extensive information on what is
available on that site. I will normally only provide reviews of
extensive sites or sites of major importance. In general, I
prefer to let the user go look and decide.
Indicates a site which either belongs to me, or for which I am
the webmaster. I will not include these sites in the Top 10% category.
Adding your Site
If you wish to add your site, we have an automatic links page.
This gets your site listed immediately. I review sites added to
that page regularly, add those I find useful to the main
directory and clean out the add page. If you believe your site
deserves a review, comment, or special category, e-mail me.
If you question the positioning of any site, find an outdated
link, dislike my comments, or just feel like sending e-mail, e-mail me!
Standards for Top 10% Sites
My Top 10% button is not an award for web design,
popularity, or some particular viewpoint I approve. It is
designed solely to direct people to the best starting point sites
for research on a particular topic. The designation Top 10%
should not be taken too literally. I use that title because I
will list no more than one in ten of the sites I
choose to include in my directory. A site will not lose this
rating just because I found another, nicer site. I will leave the
rating there until the site changes its content so that the
reason for the listing no longer exists.
A site is rated on the following points:
- Does it contain original information? A site which
contains only links to other sites must at least organize
those links in a comprehensible way.
- Is it a dead end? I strongly support the web concept, and
prefer sites which provide links to information off site.
The top rating in this category is reserved for sites
which provide a full selection of links to sites opposed
to their viewpoint. For example, if you refute an article
on another site, or even something in print which is not
on the web, it's valuable to also provide a link to the
information refuted.
- Can you find things? This is simple. If it is difficult
to find the information on the site, this is a negative.
I'm not terribly strict on this. You don't need a yellow
brick road, but if individual articles don't link back to
the directory, it may be a negative.
- Is the information you provide referenced? If you have
original articles, do they include references to your
sources? Can someone check the integrity of your work
easily?
- Can we find out about you? Why should we take into
consideration what you (or your organization) have to
say? Easy to locate information on the views,
organizational affiliations and professional
qualifications of the writers of material on the site is
also a plus.
